windmills action planning cards

The action planning cards provide a practical, tactile activity that has proved one of the most popular resources in the Windmills portfolio. The product is specifically designed to help individuals develop an action plan consisting of the various steps they need to take to achieve their career goals.

The cards are easy to use and can be used time and again by each individual to produce a range of different outcomes. Most importantly of all – they stimulate people to actually take action. Each card is headed by a specific objective beneath which is a suggested way of achieving it. Users need to work through the pack of cards, asking themselves how important each objective is to achieving their current career goals. As the cards build up under the four headings (from 'very important' to 'not important'), people create a list of actions and a clear picture of the things they must do to move forward.

This exercise can be revisited numerous times – as objectives are achieved and circumstances change, a new set of objectives will become more important and form the basis of a new action plan. People often have far too many actions under 'most important' and the sheer size of the task results in no action being taken. They are therefore encouraged to select three or four key priorities to start working on immediately. This exercise is highly effective since having a record of actions they need to take has been proven to motivate people to act.

This resource can be purchased individually and also forms one element of The Windmills Programme Trainer's Resource. The cards are used by both public and private sector clients to help their employees and clients to produce personal development plans. They are frequently used in open career and life management programmes for women and in a one-to-one coaching capacity.
